Regarding the Stopwatch feature, you will find an clock set in hours, minutes, seconds and tenths, and two buttons "reset" and "start". If you tap on start it will start to count and you can mark laps in case you are measuring racetime. The button "reset" will clear all the marks. You will be able to set the clock color from settings. From there you can also set an alarm, the ringtone volume, vibration or add lap on stop.
Regarding timer, you can set a countdown and stop it whenever you want by tapping on the "stop" button. If you change the clock color, the timer will also change. You can easily switch from stopwatch to timer. Finally, the timer can be displayed half-screen or full-screen.
This is the free version but there's a paid version called Stopwatch & Timer Plus (£0.99) with additional features: Up to 99 hours, Rename timers & Laps, Countdown then up, Loop countdowns, Export times by email, Show current lap option, 1/100ths among others.
StopWatch and Timer has been developed by sportstracklive.com, an startup focused on the public publishing of individual sports tracking and results. They've launched other tracking apps related to sports.
Even though some Android devices contains a default timer, this app offers both stopwatch and timer and it has been thought to be used in sports (but it could be used for other purpose). It's an useful app and it does what it says. Good enough.

To stop an alarm press Reset or drag down the status bar. To make an alarm repeat select "until canceled" in the settings.
